Characteristics:
Pandas Are Large Cuddly Looking Mammals That Have A Large Head And A Heavy Body. Their Ears Are Rounded And Their Tail Is Short.
They Are White With Black Patches Around Their Eyes, Ears, Shoulders, Chest, Legs, And Feet. Their Coloring Helps To Camouflage Them In The Snowy, Rocky Environment.
Pandas Have Very Thick, Oily And Wooly Fur That Protects Them And Helps With Warmth In The Cold, Wet Mountain Habitat. Their Fur Is Waterproof.
Height & Weight:
The Largest Pandas Grow To Be Around 250 Pounds Or (115 kg.) They Are Approx. 5.25 To 6 Feet (1.6 To 1.8 m) In Length. The Average Adult Male Panda Grows To Approx. 3 Feet (1 m) In Height At The Shoulder And Weighs Approximately 220 Pounds Or (100 kg). The Average Adult Female Panda Grows To Approximately 2.5 Feet Or (80 cm) In Height At Her Shoulder And Weighs Around 180 Pounds Or (80 kg). The Pandas Tail Is Around 6 Inches (16 cm) In Length.
What They Eat:
They Mainly Feast On Bamboo That Is Very Low In Nutrition So The Panda Eats Up To 15 Hours Each Day In Order To Get Enough Nutrients. The Pandas Throat And Stomach Have Extra Tough Linings To Protect Them From The Tough Food They Ingest. Pandas Normally Eat In The Upright Position Which Allows Them To Use Their Paws To Help Hold Their Food. The Chinese People Call The Panda "Da xiong mao," Which Means "Giant Bear Cat." The Panda Is Chinas Symbol Of Peace.
Most Bears Have Round Pupils With The Exception Of The Giant Panda Whose Pupils Are Vertical Slits, Similar To Cats Eyes. They Have Very Good Eye Sight.
Pandas Are Good Tree Climbers, Using Their Short Claws To Grip The Bark. On Occasion They Take Afternoon Naps High In The Trees. Unlike Many Other Species Of Bears Pandas Are Unable To Walk On Their Back Legs.
