Susan Parris * OOAK Historical Fashion Figures
"For as long as I can remember, my hands have been busy. Whether drawing, sewing or trying something new, I've been creating things all my life." Susan Parris
As a self-taught living historian and mantua maker (period seamstress), Susan Parris has been researching and recreating full size historical garments for almost 20 years. This experience enables her to authentically recreate every tiny detail of her miniature historical fashion figures to a specific year.
Susan’s figures have been featured in numerous magazine articles, as well as the cover story of the March 2007 issue of Doll Crafter & Costuming. She is ranked among the country’s top traditional artisans, and has been selected for the 2006 and 2007 Early American Life magazine’s Directory of Traditional American Crafts.
Each one-of-a-kind figure is signed and numbered and entirely handmade by Susan from the inside out. The heads, hands and foot lasts are hand sculpted then painted and glazed and attached to a soft linen body over a wire armature.
The hand sewn miniature couture garments and accessories are meticulously constructed utilizing sewing and draping techniques found on full size historical garments. Only quality natural and vintage materials that best represent authentic fabrics are used. Appropriate underpinnings (undergarments) are also included. All wigs, shoes, hats and accessories are custom made by Susan for each historical fashion figure.
